What to do
Wipe the tracks and hinges, clear the weep holes at the bottom of each window, and put graphite or light oil on the locks.
Why it matters
The weep holes drain the condensation that runs off the glass. Blocked, it sits in the frame instead.
What to look for
- Weep holes at the bottom of the window frame clear — a cotton swab or a short piece of wire does it
- Grit in the track between sash and frame
- Cranks and latches that have gone stiff
