Check the cladding for pest entry points
Every year, in September.
What to do
Walk the outside and look for gaps something could get through, particularly high up.
Why it matters
Anything that gets into a wall or attic nests in the insulation and chews what it finds there.
What to look for
- Gaps at soffit and fascia joints, which is how squirrels and bats get into an attic
- Torn or missing vent screens
- Vines or roots working in behind the siding
- Gaps where a pipe or cable passes through the wall
Where this comes from
CMHC CE 47, listed as an annual outdoor check.
Catch it while it’s still maintenance.
