What to do
Slide the old filter out, note which way the arrow points, slide the new one in the same way.
Why it matters
A blocked filter makes the furnace work harder for less heat, and on a high-efficiency unit it can trip the pressure switch and shut the heat off entirely in January.
Where this comes from
Habitat Studio p.25 says at least twice a year; CMHC says monthly through the heating season. Three months suits the pleated filters most Alberta builds ship with.
